Coupists attempted to kill the President – Guinea-Bissau Minister tells Buhari

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guinea-Bissau, Suzi Barbosa has claimed that those behind the recent coup in his country attempted to kill President Umaru Sissoco Embalo.

Barbosa revealed this while briefing President Muhammadu Buhari on the coup attempt on Sunday morning February 6.  She further revealed that the presidential palace was destroyed during the attack.

The Minister said;

“They attempted to kill President Embalo. They destroyed the presidential palace with bazookas, killed 11 young people. It took about five hours to restore order. It was a nightmare.”

President Buhari, in a statement issued by his spokesman, Femi Adesina, promised to consult with other ECOWAS leaders on how full normalcy could be restored to the embattled country at the shortest possible time.
