Journalists’ Union Commits to Supporting NYSC and Young Journalists

The Zamfara State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) has reaffirmed its unwavering support for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and its efforts to fulfill its mandate.

Ibrahim Musa Maizare, the Chairman of the Council, expressed this commitment during a courtesy visit by a delegation from the NYSC Editorial and Publicity Community Development Service (CDS) group to Gusau.

Maizare commended the NYSC for its invaluable contributions to national unity and integration. He emphasized the significance of the visit, as it marked the first official identification of the NYSC team with the union.

The NUJ Chairman highlighted that the primary role of the media is to inform, educate, and entertain the public. He expressed the union’s willingness to collaborate with groups and organizations interested in the development of the state. Maizare advised the corps members to consider themselves part of the union and view the NUJ secretariat as their home.

Abdulrazak Bello Kaura, the Zonal Secretary, shared his memorable NYSC experience, stating that those who genuinely undergo the one-year mandatory service would be willing to do it again. He served in Bayelsa State and expressed his initial apprehensions, which were dispelled by the peaceful environment and warm reception from the people. Kaura emphasized that the NYSC fosters a sense of brotherhood and sisterhood among participants. He urged corps members to be good ambassadors of the state, respect local norms and traditions, and make a lasting impact on their host communities.

Akonte Samuel, the leader of the delegation, explained that the visit aimed to strengthen ties between the NYSC and media executives and stakeholders in the state. Samuel highlighted the NYSC’s contributions to national unity, peace, and stability. He recognized the NUJ as a critical stakeholder in achieving the core objectives of the NYSC. Samuel also revealed plans to launch a weekly radio program to enhance the publicity of NYSC activities in the state.
