Currently, Starlink is licensed to provide internet services in more than 30 countries, meaning that it is permitted to do so legally.

It has been in the works since 2021 to launch in Africa, mainly Nigeria. For a meeting with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), SpaceX sent some officials to discuss the prospect of getting Starlink licensed in Nigeria in May of this year.

According to Nairametrics, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has authorized this license, confirming Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s statement this morning. Starlink Internet Services Nigeria Ltd. (its trading name) has been granted a 10-year Internet Service Provider (ISP) license that will take effect in May 2022 and will cover the company for the next decade. This category includes telecoms and private operators as well.

MTN and Airtel, which have been forced to fight against one other without increasing their internet service, will benefit greatly from Starlink’s arrival.

However, there is one drawback to using Starlink: the cost. Nigerians and Mozambicans will have to fork over $110 (60,500) for preordering and $599 (330,000) for the entire equipment to get Starlink, which includes a terminal, tripod, and Wi-Fi router. In addition to the cost of the whole equipment, the premium service costs $500 (275,000) every month.
