Netflix Naija set to release ‘Ijogbon’ in October

As the Nigerian music industry is picking up steam, so too is the Nollywood film industry.

The African titles from Netflix have been gaining traction with hit programs like King of BoysOlotureBlood & WaterHow to Ruin ChristmasYoung, Famous and African, and many more. The Streaming giant is set to bring out another film titled ‘Ijogbon’.

This coming-of-age family adventure is produced by Nigeria’s leading film director, Kunle Afolayan. It is set to release on October 13, 2023. Written by Tunde Babalola and produced by KAP Motion Pictures, Ijogbon is a story about four teenagers from south-west of Nigeria who find a bag of uncut diamonds and deal with the consequences of their discovery.

The film stars fresh faces like Fawaz Aina of Ikorodu Bois, Ruby Akubueze, Seyi Ebiesuwa, Kayode Ojulope and veteran actors like Gabriel Afolayan, Sam Dede, Adunni Ade, Dorathy Bachor, Yemi Solade and many others.

The Afolayan Brothers are seasoned actors with award-winning titles such as Anikulapo, The Figurine, Citation, Swallow, and October 1st. Yoruba mythology film Anikulapo received 16 nominations at the African Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA), including Best Overall Film, Best Makeup, Cinematography, and more. Citation, starring Temi Otedola, won Best International Film at the National Film Awards UK in 2022. Kunle Afolayan will surely do justice to Ijogbon.

In 2022, Netflix reaffirmed their commitment to African content. Dorothy Ghettuba, Netflix’s director of local language series for Africa reiterated that, “We believe that Africa is one of the major creative center’s for great storytelling that resonates around the world”.
