Former Nigerian Ambassador to Kenya Passes Away at the Age of 73

Ambassador Yusuf Yunusa, who served as Nigeria’s ambassador to Kenya, has sadly passed away at the age of 73.

He died after a brief illness at the Yobe University Teaching Hospital in Damaturu on Friday.

The funeral prayers for the late ambassador were attended by numerous dignitaries, including Governor Mai Mala Buni, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Baba Malam Wali. The Chief Imam of Nguru Emirate, Imam Shehu Goni Abba, led the funeral prayers.

Governor Buni described Ambassador Yusuf Yunusa as an elder statesman, dedicated and honest, and a highly skilled civil servant and technocrat. He acknowledged the late ambassador’s selfless life and prayed to Almighty Allah (SWT) to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Jannathul Firdaus. The governor also extended his prayers to the family, asking Allah to grant them the strength to bear the loss.

Born in Nguru in 1950, Ambassador Yusuf Yunusa is survived by four wives, 21 children, several grandchildren, and brothers, including Engineer Mustapha Yunusa Maihaja, the former Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
