Novak Djokovic included on the list for next month’s Indian Wells ATP event in California, but could be denied entry into the US

Novak Djokovic has been included on the list for next month’s Indian Wells ATP event in California, but the Tennis champion could be denied entry into the US as he is yet to be vaccinated.

The 34-year-old Serb is on the list to play at next month’s prestigious event in California. The tournament is following tour protocols, which have held back from making the jab compulsory.

However, it is entering the United States that remains in doubt for him if he continues his stance of refusing to get vaccinated.

According to Mail Online, exceptions for the unvaccinated are limited to a few categories, such as a ‘humanitarian or emergency exemption’ or persons whose presence is in the ‘national interest’. However, it remains unclear where he might play after this month’s appearance at the Dubai Championships.

According to one well-informed source, Djokovic has been seriously considering getting vaccinated, having watched Nadal overtake his tally of Grand Slam titles in Melbourne.

Djokovic will be joined in Dubai by Andy Murray, who has secured a wildcard into the main draw.

Last month, the tennis star lost his chance to defend his Australian Open title after an Australian court upheld the government’s cancellation of his visa and his deportation. Three Federal Court judges upheld the decision made by the immigration minister to cancel the 34-year-old Serb’s visa on public interest grounds after he had arrived in the country without getting vaccinated.
